Your baby feet are precious, perfect, innocent. Buying your little ones first pair of shoes is a huge milestone. It’s very exciting helping them get ready to take their first steps but we understand it can be very daunting as a parent in making the right decision when to buy their first shoes.
There is no best time for your little one to start wearing shoes. Think about your child’s needs and the purpose of the shoes. We stock both Clarks and Start-rite shoes which are designed to accommodate children through all stages of development.
We stock a good selection of first shoes, from the softest materials to the lightest of soles. The shoes are designed to provide only the necessary support growing feet need to move healthily and happily though their next adventure.
Both Clarks and Start-rite offer two types of babies first shoes.
Cruising
Once your baby is able to stand and pull themselves up onto their feet supported by furniture, or perhaps holding your hand. This is the stage called cruising. These shoes are lightweight, have flexible soles that will enable the natural progression of their feet towards making their first independent steps.
Walking
When your baby can walk a few steps on their own, and you need eyes in the back of your head this is the time to buy their fist shoes. These first shoes have slightly firmer soles to provide protection to their delicate feet as they start to explorer everywhere. Usually this is somewhere between 9 months and 18 months old.
A lot of people ask how quickly do babies feet grow? For around the first three months of their life, you should expect your babies feet to grow around 2 mm a month. From 3-5 years old this slows down to around 1mm a month.
